The Inaugural Address of the Grammy's

Last night the Grammy's were on.  Friends, I am just kicking myself for missing this monumental historical ceremony.  Lucky for me, the early morning news covered all of the highlights I missed.   What a breath of fresh air to hear that instead of celebrating musical achievements, celebrities used their platform to inform us all on how we should feel about political figures and policies.  If you are one of those silly people who think celebrities are "out of touch",  let me help convince you on why it would be to your great benefit to heed the words of these very wise, very influential figures of our time.

Let's start with Kendrick Lamar.  I don't know much about this young warrior, but he did at one point release a collection of songs titled, "Youngest Head Nigga In Charge" so I am thinking he cares very deeply about the representation of the black community. He also stated in an interview that, "voting is useless, I don't vote".  However, he quick changed his mind and voted for Obama because, after he self professed zero research, declared, "He seems to have a good heart."   That's nice.  Kendrick Lamar seems to be a very peaceful guy, on his newest albums, one of the lyrics is, "I don't contemplate, I meditate, then off your F*%#$(%@ head".   Poetic brilliance I tell ya'.    I am deeply moved by Kendrick's performance and platform for peace, particularly in his obvious anger towards police.   In addition to this, his newest album titled "Damn"  (seriously, a poetic genius! How long do you think it took him to come up with that title?) he sings about, how one should, "go F$%^ on a B#$^h".    So, you can imagine how moved I was to see the brave women of the evening, fighting for equality and respect, applaud this shaker of our time.  Kendrick dressed up as Jesus for Halloween and thanks God in all of his speeches.  Therefore, he must be a Christian and our theology really matches up.  I love when that happens! Kendrick then told us to nominate Jay-Z for president in 2020.  Everyone cheered.  That would be a fantastic idea. I think he once pled guilty to stabbing a record exec....and was convicted for dealing cocaine...but....GO JAY-Z!

Wasn't it nice to see Dave Chapelle as part of the Grammy's?  I am sure the women in the audience fighting for inequality love the part in his new act where he jokes about how, "Yeah Weinsten rapes, I am not sure this F***** has a choice, but if it was Brad Pitt doing that, you wouldn't have heard a peep!"  and about the Kevin Spacey allegations he joked, "Not to victim blame, but it seems like the kind of situation a gay 14 year old would get himself into". Man, that guy is hilarious.  Hollywood sure thinks so. And I know we must listen to Hollywood, but sometimes Hollywood is confusing.  I mean, is sexual misconduct funny? Or is it harrowing? They really can't seem to make up their mind.

Speaking of those brave women, what a teachable moment with my daughter I missed out on there.  Some women wore white, or donned white roses to make a statement for the whole, "Time's Up" campaign. If I could go back in time, and remember to care and make sure we watched the Grammy's, I would really take my time in telling her about how these women are "changing the course of history".  I imagine my speech would go something like this, "Well, you see honey, for many years, these women have used their sexuality by dancing around in barely any clothes to sell albums and make videos, where they are often times, singing about sex and how sexy and hot they are.  But NOW they have decided they are angry at men for seeing them as sex objects.   They are also SHOCKED that there has been sexual misconduct within their industry. They really would have spoke up sooner if they had known about it. "  Sza (pronounced Si-Za for those of you ignorant people who can't read the name Sza), wore white roses in her hair and even took her grandma with her to the Grammys.  I bet her grandma is just so proud of her granddaughter, I mean, I can't speak for my grandma but it's cool how Sza's grandma doesn't blush when she hears her granddaughter collaborate with THE Kendrick Lamar and sing about how, "real nigga's don't deserve p#$%S%$". True story!  Just google the lyrics to her album!  Jenelle Monae' gave a really moving "Time's Up" speech, I don't know much about Monae' other than she talks about dating androids, so if there is any woman who is going to convince men to take us more seriously, she is a safe bet.  Her and Ke$ha.  Ke$ha has really done a lot of growing up since singing about using a bottle of Jack to brush her teeth.   Harriet Tubman, Corrie Ten Boom, Louisa May Alcott....this generation has Ke$ha.  I am so glad I have lived to see this.

Camilla Cabello gave a really in depth yet shallow enough to understand speech on how, illegal immigration is like, totally awesome.  I really like that Havana song.  You know, the one that goes:

Bump on her bumper like a traffic jam
Hey, I was quick to pay that girl like Uncle Sam (here you go, ay)
Back it on me, shawty cravin' on me
Get to diggin' on me (on me)
She waited on me (then what?)
Shawty cakin' on me, got the bacon on me (wait up)

So I am just going to go ahead and agree with her on immigration reform, because even though Nikki Haley (the current US ambassador to the United Nations) has her doctorate degree and would disagree with Camilla, Camilla is really pretty and seems like one smart cookie.  Pink sang about something important too.  She goes by "Pink", and I like the color pink.  She is a really big PETA activist and specifically speaks out against KFC (like, the fast food chain KFC).  I mean, if men won't take us seriously after listening to Pink at the Grammy's, I don't know what options are left.  Also, she has absolutely never flaunted herself as a sex symbol, ever,   so I am sure it was a really, really important message.

The best part of the Grammy's had to be when Hillary Clinton, along with Cher and Snoop Dogg (Do I even need to use space telling you how brilliant those two are?)  were featured reading excerpts from "Fire and Fury", the new book out about Donald Trump.  It was so nice to see these people change things up by helping to bridge the divide in our country by continuing to shame half of the population who voted for Trump.  Telling people they are stupid for not voting for Hilary really seemed to work out well for them in 2016, so I am glad to see they haven't changed their tactics or game plan!  They are sure to secure a victory with Jay-Z in 2020.  Smart, smart people.

The only bummer of the Grammy's was the backlash today in the news about females not taking home enough awards.  I realize everything is supposed to be, "gender neutral" these days, and it's all about "equality" but men are still bad people who are just out to get women, and not as great as women, and therefore shouldn't win more awards.  Hopefully the Grammy police or whatever take that into consideration next year.

Okay everyone, The Oscars awards show is coming up on March 4th.   Let's make a game plan to gather our children and families, and sit down and watch.  We really can't afford to be missing out on the deep insights and enlightenment the celebrities and musical geniuses of our time have to offer.  And if you did miss the Grammys like myself, hopefully they will air re-runs on the Disney Channel sometime soon for our children.

Disclaimer: Because there is always a disclaimer:  In all seriousness friends, whether you are republican, democrat or independent, I think we can all agree that it's time to stop listening to Hollywood.  Seriously, turn the TV off and find some new radio stations...... if you live in my area, Life 97.5 specifically makes sure your kids aren't hearing the type of lyrics I pointed out above.
